WSL’s ability to meet customer’s needs through strong design skills have never been more evident than on our latest project with The Card Factory at Wakefield.

The Card factory has enjoyed massive growth over the last few years to become one of the U.K.’s leading greeting card retailers.

As usual growth brings it’s own challenges and the company was constantly requiring more space. Acquisition of a new 50,000 sq ft warehouse helped, but how to efficiently store and handle the many different products threw up some interesting ideas. Wsl was called in and together with the client a complex, but highly effective storage system was designed, involving a combination of narrow aisle racking, live carton storage and shelving on two mezzanine floors.

Wsl suggested the use of Flexi trucks within the narrow aisle racking giving in effect an hybrid truck able to work within narrow aisles like a reach truck, but also operate outside of the racking as would a counterbalance truck.

The whole project is being undertaken within a working warehouse. Close cooperation between installers and client has been therefore absolutely vital to ensure minimum business disruption, and that all attendant Health and Safety issues have been dealt with properly.

Five installation teams are involved requiring close attention from our Project Manager Mathew Barnes, who had to dovetail their activities

The project will be completed by the end of June after an 8 week build programme, and will be on time and on budget.
