As the home nations have had to cancel their flights for the European Cup we decided what this summer needed was some quality football action; WSL and their friends were the people to supply it!
Sunday saw the first WSL Charity Cup take place at The Warehouse Systems Stadium, home to Ossett Albion. 7 teams took part in a fiercely competed league. DHL were the eventual winners after beating Bibby 1-0 in the final, with the tournaments Golden Boot getting the only goal.
On a gloriously sunny day nearly £800 pounds was raised, through entry fees and program sales. Half of what was raised will be going to Ossett Albion, with the other half going to DHL; who will be using it to buy Christmas hampers for local residential homes for the elderly.
In a three year deal, WSL will sponsor the home of OAAFC, Dimple Wells. The ground will be renamed the Warehouse Systems Stadium and will be transformed to include a new bar area, improved changing room facilities, a club shop and a new boardroom.
WSL, always keen sports followers have provided sponsorship to many clubs, but never on the same scale as this new venture with Ossett Albion AFC.
Future plans are also in place for WSL to help design, fabricate and install a new stand at the ground. All these improvements to the ground will help Ossett Albion to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with both on and off the field. WSL are proud to be part of the changes taking place at the club.
WSL would like to thank Tony Stott, OAAFC Chairman, for his help in arranging the event and everyone at the club for working hard to prepare the pitches, food and changing rooms.
With this year being such a success, it is hoped next years event will be even bigger and better and become a permanent fixtures in everyones sporting callendar.
